CALL*RESPONSE: THE WORKSHOP

This is a two-part collaborative workshop for writers and photographers led by the editors of Call*Response: Volume One. It is being held at Millenium Libray. Space is limited and registration is on a first-come basis. Participants should be over 18 years of age, beginners are welcome, bring your camera, writing instruments, and be willing to share your work.

Part 1 – June 4, local author John Toone leads the writers through exercises to make their words sing (or scream) while Michael Sanders shares
his insighst with the photographers into shooting live music and crowds.

Part 2 – June 11, writers and photographers unite to mash-up their ideas into a rockin’ public art display featuring potential spreads for Call*Response: Volume Two.

Call*Response launches at McNally Robinson

Come rock the house on March 24 at 8:00 pm at McNally Robinson Grant Park. We’re throwing a big party in Prairie Ink to promote the Call * Response book.

Contributors Marshal Fries and Jim Agapito will be speaking about their written pieces. Contributing photographers will be on hand to answer questions along with the editing and publishing staff. Chris Sawatzky of The Ripperz & special guests will be entertaining you after presentation.

We hope to see as many of the contributors out as possible so that we can recognize them and their fabulous work!

The Prairie Ink Restaurant is making a fancy non-alcoholic cocktail for the evening, all proceeds from the purchase of these delicious beverages will be donated to Kids Help Phone. Come down and enjoy a drink and tasty eats!

Call*Response: Present, Past and Beyond ~ Volume I

Call * Response is a book inspired by youth and Winnipeg’s live music scene as told by thirty-six local photographers, visual artists, writers, lyricists and fans.  The book includes unpublished photos of Dead Kennedys, Propagandhi, SNFU, the poster art of Steve Hallick, writing from Sam Smith, Greg MacPherson’s top-ten shows, memorabilia, and much, much more. On March 1st, 2011 you will be able to pick your copy at Music Trader (97 Osborne Street) and McNally Robinson (1120 Grant Avenue). We are working on a few other stores and will keep you posted as we confirm them.
